Shore Medical Center, formerly Shore Memorial Hospital, is a full-service acute care community hospital located in Somers Point, New Jersey, serving Atlantic and Cape May counties. They provide health services for Cancer, Spine & Orthopedic, Emergency, Maternity, Pediatrics and Neurology.
R2A & R2I worked with Shore Medical Center to plan and design the ground up 3-story Medical Arts Pavilion. The Medical Arts Pavilion building seamlessly fitted into the SMC Master plan for the East Campus that our affiliate, R2A, was integral in developing over a 5-year time span.
The building required special foundations due to the soil conditions that exist within 100’ of the Somers Point bay’s waterfront and special design requirements to accommodate the updated building codes for coastal design standards due to super storms.
The building serves a physical link for all SMC visitors that utilize the parking structure on their way into the main hospital building. Careful planning to achieve visitor-friendly experience in moving people from the parking structure through the Medical Arts Pavilion into the Main Hospital was accomplished by the design and use of two (2) pedestrian bridges linking the three (3) structures (Parking Structure, Medical Arts Pavilion, and the Main Hospital).
R2A & R2I programmed, designed, and provided complete architectural and interior design services for the fit-out of the building’s clinical units that include: Neuroscience Center for Excellence – Coastal Physicians, SPG Maternal-Fetal Medicine (in affiliation with PENN) for high-risk pregnancies, and Reliance OBGYN that also included a program for high-risk pregnancies.
