Shore Medical Center, formerly Shore Memorial Hospital, is a full-service acute care community hospital located in Somers Point, New Jersey, serving Atlantic and Cape May counties. They provide health services for Cancer, Spine & Orthopedic, Emergency, Maternity, Pediatrics and Neurology.
R2A & R2I planned and designed the major reconstruction and modernization of the Emergency Department at Shore Medical Center (SMC). The design of the Unit was consistent with SMC’s commitment to Plane Tree practice.
The ED’s design featured a pod configuration of patient bays that facilitate the opening and closing of pods based on census. The pods that include a total of thirty six patient bays (36) were strategically planned around carefully positioned and sized nursing stations. The implementation of high tech I.T. and integration of the I.T. within the case work and nurse stations permit the efficient monitoring and control of the patient flow in the unit.
The unit also included a six (6) bay Treat and Release unit within the footprint that share the support of the main ED. This TR unit was located adjacent to the ED Waiting Room to facilitate patient friendly access for easy ‘come and go’ services. R2A & R2I designed the diagnostic imaging suites that included a Cat Scan Room with the capacity to accommodate a 64 slice CT and the design of the Digital X-Ray suite all within the footprint of the ED.
