Rutgers University | Marryott Music Hall
New Brunswick, New Jersey
Description
The Marryott Music Hall at Rutgers University is the main hub for the Music Department featuring department offices, classrooms, and a concert hall. It was designed specifically for music instruction, with massive masonry walls and doors minimizing sound leakage and a facade ornamented with a lyre and composers’ names.
The scope of work to the +/- 32,000 SF historically significant building included exterior upgrades and the replacement to the 80+ year old slate roof and copper storm water gutters, leaders, flashing, and downspouts that are period correct.
The $3.5M interior areas included upgrades to the public areas on the first floor, the complete rehabilitation of the main performance recital hall fitted with new stage and period complimenting acoustical wall treatments and new HVAC systems with attention to sound and vibration isolation to not affect performances in the recital hall. Upgrades to the electrical systems and new lighting were also completed.
