The Levoy Theater

Millville, NJ

This project consisted of the rehabilitation of the Levoy Theatre into a 650 +/- seat Performing Arts Center.  The theater was originally constructed in 1908 with significant reconstructions, and renovations beginning in 1912 and into the 1960’s, than in 1974, the theatre permanently closed to the public.  In 1998 the building was listed on the New Jersey and the National Register of Historic Places.

The scope of the work included the demolition of the entire building which included: the restoration of the historic High Street façade, the recreation of historically accurate entrance doors, reconstruction of the original 1927 Marquee and the repair and rehabilitation of the remaining exterior masonry walls.  The interior was reconstructed to meet the requirements of the current needs of the project program and new finishes were replaced and installed but consistent with the interior finishes present from 1939.

The completed building contains approximately 22,205 SF of usable area on three (3) levels which include: the stage and stage house; auditorium with seating on two levels; public accommodations including foyer and lobbies, box office, concession stands and restrooms; and back-of-house facilities including dressing rooms, audio and lighting control booths, offices and miscellaneous equipment and storage rooms.
